January 6, 2004 - NS BASIC Corporation announced today the immediate availability of NS Basic/Palm 4.1. Features include a major increase in speed for Palm OS 5.x devices and numerous fixes and enhancements to the IDE. "By taking advantage of native mode in the ARM processor, we have made stunning increases in the speed of NS Basic apps.", said George Henne, President of NS BASIC Corporation. "This will benefit existing apps, which need no modification to gain the higher performance, and allow the use of NS Basic for many applications that could only be done in C before." The same NS Basic executable will run on devices ranging from a 5 year old Palm III to the latest Tungsten T3, without changes. The difference in speed can be considerable: one test program ran 220 times faster on the T3 than on the Palm III. The maximum speed increase on a single device was 25 times. NS Basic/Palm 4.1 also includes numerous improvements and fixes to the IDE. The new version is available immediately for $149.95 USD. Upgrades for existing users start at $49.95. Customers who bought after October 1, 2003 will get the upgrade for free. Existing NS Basic programs are upwardly compatible with the new version.
