I have to chime in on this as well. I've been in computing since 1979. I've been through five different platforms and more systems that I care to remember in that time. I've used so much software from so many different companies that I have lost track.

In all that time (with the exception of Microsoft about 10 years ago, when a Microsoft engineer sat on the phone with me for five hours teaching me relational database theory so I could get Access 1.0 to do what I wanted it to), I have NEVER had better customer and developer support than I get from you!

With ever passing day, I see more and more companies:

  • eliminating free support
  • charging horrendous amount for technical support
  • reducing technical support hours to 9-5, when I'm at work and can't call in about home or non-business related problems
  • pushing support onto peer services (such as newsgroups where there is no official company presence)
  • limiting support to Web-based or e-mail support which they don't answer on a timely basis

In the face of all of this is your company, showing that good, timely customer support CAN be done.

I've sent you e-mails in the middle of the night and gotten responded within HOURS! And I have YOUR e-mail address; not some generic mail-drop-for-tech-support-problems address. I know when I send you a message I'm going to get a personal response. That means more than I can explain!

You guys are truly a model of what customer support SHOULD be. You -- and the whole team -- should be extremely proud of the level of support you give day-in and day-out! -- pete

Hello everybody! I'm a brand new NSBasic user and, I confess, a "very" rookie programmer.

I've been reading the messages for the past month and have enjoyed and learned a lot from them.

I've been swapping emails for the past few days with George on a peculiar problem with my system and NSBasic. His timely responses and assistance have been incredible.

I'm looking forward to learning from all of you, especially those sample contest programs that I'm starting to download and check out.

I'll add my voice to the choir -- right after buying NSB, I sent an inquiry regarding support for specific features. George answered back very soon. I just checked, and it was 37 minutes. So I sent a reply back which among other things said:

Me: >That was sure a fast response! Is this what your support is like? I'm impressed!
George:> Yes, this is pretty normal.

Then I asked more questions and he responded till past 10 pm, then again at 7am the next morning. And although I was a newly registered user, he took the time to answer questions privately instead of asking me to use the list (which I hadn't discovered yet).

At the time NSB was at 1.07, and since then I've joined this list and seen the effort put in by others like Marcus too. The turn-around time on betas of the run-time for some of us trying to make use of various APIs has been incredible too.

I have no doubt there are other less visible names which help make this all happen. NSB support stands out in stark contrast to what I see as common for the industry today.

NSBasic is the way to go for rapid development. It is easy to learn, the support is better than what you would find with ANY product ANYWHERE, and they constantly add to their already feature rich product. -- Bill C.

George and the rest of the NSBasic development crew, A couple of months ago I couldn't have told you the difference between a variable and a string! :-) Now I find myself knowing enough to thank you and your crew for providing the most recent and excellent update for NSB. I am especially happy with the ability to use arrays in databases! I am also looking forward to learning more about the use of color.

NSBasic has made it possible for me to enjoy a world that I have been curious about for years. I just want you to know, once again, how much I appreciate the fine product and wonderful support. -- Rachel

NSBasic is more than an IDE for me, it's a community. Yes, we support each other and even support NSBC and help them with problems. I've never seen a phenomenon like this with any other software I own. Cool stuff if you ask me. What follows is a list of what I'VE gotten for FREE from NSBasic since my Feb/March purchase. I purchased the program at version 1.0, knowing that one day, if I stuck with attempting to program for the Palm OS, I would have to dig up some more cash to purchase an upgrade, if I wanted to stay current with the capabilities of the program. I "play" with this Palm programming as a hobby and find it hard sometimes to justify spending $$ to keep my software current. It was the kind people in this forum and the great support from George and others at NSB that made me break out the plastic and launch my cable modem connected web browser to NSB's site without hesitation when I heard of the upgrade. -- Keith

I wanted to take a moment out of my busy compiling schedule to brag on the folks at NSB - especially George.

There was a bug that was fixed with the release today that I unfortunately/fortunately found and seemed to be the loudest about reporting.

It was unfortunate of course because no one likes to find a bug that keeps them from using a new toy. ;-) I was thrilled with the new IDE and couldn't wait to use it - so I did start to get frustrated.

It was fortunate because it gave me the opportunity to experience the dedication, concern, passion and commitment that NSB, and especially George, has to provide and support the product.

Over the course of the 5-6 days that it took for the bug to be clearly identified and fixed (and George was great with trying to get information from me - especially when he could have written me off because NSB, as much as they tried, couldn't duplicate the bug) the company was in constant contact with me, both e-mail and phone. Yes, you can imagine my surprise when my caller ID identified George as the caller.

George sent specially created mini-apps and test versions of the IDE for me to use so that we could capture and identify the cause of the bug. The last two versions of the test IDE were sent at almost 11:00 pm at night and before 6:30 the following morning. And before George went home that night he was waiting for my response to the test. So you can see, he had a short night of sleep, right?

Now you can understand why I wanted to take a moment to brag on NSB and particularly George. I've spent a lot of money on products over the years. Never have I encountered a company with the passion for getting something right or fixed that matched my own. I haven't met a single person who stayed late working on a bug and was in the next morning still trying to get it fixed.

Now you all out there are programmers of varying levels. You all know the agony of creating something that just won't work right and the relentless pursuit you give to finding the answer. Well, folks, if you ever had a doubt to the heart of NSB, George Henne's actions should forever lay any doubt to rest. NSB may be a "company" that creates and distributes software development environments, but at their core they are still passionate programmers who are dedicated to creating a product that they're proud to stand behind and put their name on.

Also wanted to mention that I just received my CD and manual in the mail. I think you did a great job with the manual. I like the layout... it's very easy to find help on all the NSbasic topics. Too bad Microsoft was incapable of ever writing a respectable manual (alright maybe the old MSDOS 3.0 manual was somewhat usable).

NSBasic support is just sick! No company should be allowed to be so good at support. Truly amazing. AppForge is pretty good as well, you just have to wait a day or two for an answer whereas the NSBasic guys generally respond within minutes. SatForms support is the absolute worst ever. Even if you buy an support incident pack, there is no guarantee that you will get an answer. I have tried this twice, unsuccessfully each time. But, I cannot see a need to ever call them because they have no bugs. -- Maurice Dorris

i just upgraded to 3.0 ... usually i do not upgrade when i know my apps would work just fine with 2.1 for example ... the reason why i upgraded is more to supporting nsbasic ... i like how you guys support and everything ... so in this case i support the great job of the people at nsbasic ... -- bert
Thanks again for the 'beats the industry standard' reply. Super job on the Palm IDE by the way. I found it simple to setup and use. And it looks very comprehensive. Only a little fuzzy when I began setting up the POSE. Having never set up a Palm emulator before, I was puzzled for a few seconds. I recently ordered and asked you guys to send the package (envelope) i a certain way to avoid high import costs and tolls, with a bad feeling as the times i've tried that I always ended up paying more than double the price for the software. This because the companies didnt take any notice on my requests whatsoever.

Thank you also for supplying NSBasic. Nobody with my schedule has time to learn all of the ins and outs of C. NSBasic allows people to more fully utilize their handhelds for something other than a portable rolodex. By adapting my Palm to my business, it becomes a valuable tool, replacing older technology with smaller, more capable equipment. This would not be possible without NSBasic. -- Brad Barton
